A Message from the Trustees

Bob Ledwith Mr. Robert Ledwith

Business Manager &
Financial Secretary/Treasurer
Local 46 Metallic Lathers

Welcome! It seems hard to believe that we are about to enter the 10th year of the 21st century. So much has happened to us as a nation and as a people in the past millenium. Our environment has been transformed by events that very few of us could have predicted. While we might not agree about which of those changes were for the best, there is one thing upon which we can all agree. We should never be deterred from working toward a better future. It is in that spirit we have created this web site.

The purpose of our new endeavor is to educate and re-educate decision makers about the practicality, virtues, sustainability and cost effectiveness of the every day use of cast- in- place post-tensioned reinforced concrete in the construction industry. From roads to bridges, from residential towers to office buildings, from traditional power plants to nuclear, from waste treatment facilities to garages, from tunnels to mass transit; what better method of permanent construction can we, as a society, pass down to our progeny than cast-in-place- reinforced concrete?

As we all know, the ancient Romans built their aqueducts, viaducts and many of their structures with concrete. After more than 2,000 years, many of thes engineering marvels still stand. A great testimony to the vision of 21st century America would be that future civilizations recognized the wisdom of our widespread use of this marvelous material in our everyday lives. I hope that the builders, developers and other consumers of construction products, who peruse this site, find the provided information useful, informative and enlightening.

Cast-in-place post-tensioned reinforced concrete, as well as genuine lath and plaster construction, are produced locally and created by skilled craftsmen who just might be your neighbor. Think about it! There are products readily available to you that are made in New York by New Yorkers from materials made in the U.S.A.

Hello, and welcome to the Website of the Local 46 Labor Management Cooperative Trust. This is the place where labor and management cooperate with one another in order to create harmony.

Every day presents a new challenge. What can be done to make us more competitive? Have there been advancements intechnology? What steps can be taken by both labor and management to function more efficiently? These are but a few of the important issues that will remain central to this site, and which invite your comments and suggestions. We value your ideas.

It is our hope that we can keep all the stake holders apprised of what is new in our industry, and promote not only our industry, but also industry wide education. We all know that hiring well-trained, highly skilled workers who are provided with Pension and Health Benefits, is the best way to build. Those same workers pay taxes and are a plus to the communities in which they work and live.

What we we also know to be true, because we have learned it, is:

When we work together, all things are possible.
